McAullife Takes Stand on Bush’s Military Record . . . AGAIN

Filed under: Politics by Chad at 12:55 am UTC

Update on the current (9/10) scandal about the 60 Minutes documents can be found here.

Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAullife challenged George Bush’s military record with the National Gaurd during a conference call with reporters today.

“At a time when national security is on the forefront of every American’s mind, the American people deserve to know the truth about their president’s military service,” McAuliffe said.

Citing reports that some records of the president’s service have been lost or destroyed, McAuliffe said, “Only one man knows about George W. Bush’s military service, and he is not talking. That’s why we’re talking about this today.”

Unless you are a Vietnam Veteran, do you really care about Kerry’s Vietnam record? Since when has military service equalled a qualified president? There have been some good ones, namely Washington, but there have also been incredible flops as in Andrew Jackson.

The DNC has gone so far as to create a section of their website detailing the service of Bush. Let’s not forget the hundreds of pages detailing Bush’s service that were released after the first McAullife try, let’s re-hash an issue that most Americans don’t care about. What was McAullife’s former occupation? Chief advisor to former New Republic columnist Stephen Glass?

McAuliffe accused Republicans of having made military service an issue in the campaign. He said “the president’s men” have “continually tried to destroy and discredit John Kerry’s military record…. We will not stand by and allow this to happen.”

McAuliffe made clear that Kerry’s military record will be on full display at the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Boston. On the night Kerry addresses the convention, his crew mates from his Swift Boat days will be there, as well as Jim Rassman, who says Kerry saved his life during one engagement with the enemy. In addition, former Senator Max Cleland, who lost three limbs in Vietnam, will introduce Kerry to the convention.

Who keeps bringing this up Terry? Kerry’s service in Vietnam is one of his talking points as to why he would be “strong on national security.” Listen to the three debates this fall. I promise you that at every debate, Kerry will bring up his service in Vietnam at least five times per debate without provication.

One surprising thing is that this “call to action” is coming from Terry McAullife. Tell me Terry, didn’t you back a president for two terms that dodged the draft? I believe you did, Terry. I believe you did.

Digg It!

Yes, Terry sure did back a draft-dodger. And the DD beat Bob Dole and Bush 41 – both of whom were war heroes.
