Arianna Huffington is reporting that Vice President Dick Cheney checked into the Vail hospital and has been released. Huffington cites, as best I can tell, a nurse who “saw” the whole entrance through a door and her limo driver that the official story Cheney was checking in for his bum knee is in fact false. Huffington says she has learned that Cheney has had his heart checked upon.
If this is true, I do wish Cheney well just as I did President Clinton when he underwent heart surgery (most Conservatives did as well). Love Cheney or hate him, he is still the Vice President of the United States of America.
Unfortunately some people see this as another chance to take a shot at Vice President Cheney and the Bush Adminstration and actually wish Cheney would suffer. Many commenters on Huffington’s post wish Cheney ill will. What is wrong with you people!
Many comments make laughs about Cheney’s “last throes” comment, but the facts show the insurgency is in its last throes. Regardless, why are people making light of a report that the Vice freaking President of the United States is ill?
Michelle Malkin notes of differences between Conservatives wishing health to President Clinton and others wishing ill will towards the current VP. From what I have seen at least, there is quite a difference.

Via Wizbang, a reporter for the Vail Daily doubts Arianna’s belief Cheney was at the hospital for anything but his knee.
Everyone I called laughed at me, frankly. But it’s not implausible at all. We haven’t been able to confirm anything like that happening, and grrrr, it’s that damn sort of rumor that’s impossible to disprove, either. Or at least not easy. The doc Cheney supposedly saw didn’t answer his home phone tonight, and I know he wouldn’t tell me anything if he did.
As the reporter outlines, Arianna’s sources are quite questionable. She heard second-hand gossip, her limo driver and a nurse who believed something big was happening because the Secret Service did not let her out of the bathroom while VP Cheney was passing by. None of these are exactly very reliable sources, however Arianna Huffington continues to go by her story that we are not being told the truth.

Cheney has shown absolutely no compassion for the people of Iraq. He’s a thief.
Halliburton has stolen and stolen and stolen and stolen and stolen (a lotta stolens for something like 8 billion dollars) of our money.
And now he secretly keeps his health issues from the public.
This man does not deserve to be Vice President.
Nor does this man require any respect.
I speak for over half of the country.
Cheney should be impeached.
Then he can go off and get sick and nobody has to care.

I haven’t seen much wishing that Cheney is ill, most appears to focused on whether or not he’s had additional heart problems.
As far as liberals v conservatives, I’d say Bradley’s 1999 takedown for heart problems was far more viscious and venal than anything I’ve seen targeted at Cheney’s health.

I voted for Al Gore and for John Kerry, but I wish Mr. Cheney a speedy and full recovery. Contrary to your false assertions, not all Democrats or liberals wish ill on the VP, nor have I seen any evidence of this. In fact, most of the liberal blogs that I’ve been on today express the same sentiments as I.

I wish Vice President Cheney good health. I do not wish to see the Vice President suffer from health related problems. I do however wish to see him stand trial, under oath for crimes against humanity and crimes of high treason. I would give anything to see this man tried and convicted for the crimes he’s committed against Americans, Iraqis and countless others he’s cold-bloodedly wronged. God save his health so he can live to stand trial. Perhaps he deserves a spot in that swell place in the tropics where he can spend the rest of his days sipping mint julips, feasting on lemon chicken, veggies and two types of fruit, dressing up in orange, enjoying everything he could possibly want and every now and then seeing the good Doctor there to find out what his hopes and fears are. (I would have said the same about Clinton if he had done half the harm in the world that this weak, cowardly man has done.)

Please. When I saw the debate between Cheney and John Edwards I realized I was looking at NOT a human being (Cheney) but a vicious reptile. I have never seen such poison directed at a human being as Cheney spewed at poor Mr Edwards, who was visibly thrown by his animosity and tried to respond rationally on the issues. Naturally, the cons crowed that Cheney “won.”
Well, you cannot be that evil inside and not put an incredible toll on your body. The Cheney organism is buckling under the psychic weight of his moral turpitude.

Compassion!? How idiotic!! Cheney has shown not one iota of “compassion” in his disgusting greedy, sneaking and lying life … for ANYONE except Dick Cheney!! He’s now lying about his heart condition … AGAIN! While scurrying off to U.S.A. doctors (whom he hopes will make HIS life better!) he and his whitehouse criminal GANG continue to recruit other U.S.A. docs to help with new/improved TORTURE techniques!!
