Military Investigation Finds No Torture at Guantanamo

Filed under: U.S. News by Chad at 7:05 am UTC

Isn’t the “gulag of our times” supposed to actually include torture? Not so says a military investigation into Guantanamo Bay detention facility.

A military investigation of interrogations at U.S. Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, found no torture occurred, but one high-value al Qaeda operative was subjected to “abusive and degrading treatment” when he was forced to wear a brassiere, do dog tricks and stay awake for 20 hours a day.

“We looked at this very, very carefully — no torture occurred,” Air Force Lt. Gen. Randall M. Schmidt testified yesterday before the Senate Armed Services Committee. “Detention and interrogation operations across the board … looking through all the evidence that we could, were safe, secure and humane.”

Maybe the detainee was wearing a bra because Frank Costanza hasn’t released the patent on the bro? Or was it the manziere?

Anyhow, can we finally get rid of the torture at Guantanamo talk? Please? This is a tiresome political tactic employed by some U.S. politicians, a few “human rights” groups and the terrorists. Even though this report came out yesterday, Senator Carl Levin made veiled references to abuse yesterday as well, though he has no proof.

I’m rather skeptical this will matter though as detractors to the GWOT and Guantanamo will point out this is a military investigation thus, in their minds, a Bush propoganda piece. I called it and I’m sure we’ll see it soon.
