Mohammed Bouyeri, the man convicted in the death of Dutch filmaker Theo Van Gogh, is on trial yet again, this time on charges he lead a terrorist organization called the Hofstad Network.
“Comparing me to Osama bin Laden wrongs him and is too much honour for me,” Bouyeri said as he started presenting his own defence.
Bouyeri says he carried out the murder alone because he believed that Van Gogh had insulted Islam in a film criticising the treatment of Muslim women. (source)
During Bouyeri’s first trial, he proclaimed he felt no guilt over Van Gogh’s killing and justified the heinous act of murder this way: “I acted purely in the name of my religion.” Bouyeri also claimed that if he is ever let free, he would do it again.
Bouyeri’s reasoning for the killing has been used yet again in the trial of radical Islamic cleric Abu Hamza in England. Hamza’s lawyer told the English court you cannot punish for jihad.
Should all non-Muslims have a knife stabbed into their heart with a note attached like he did to Van Gogh? According to Bouyeri:
He said that good non-Muslims should be treated fairly because “Allah loves the just”, but that leaders of non-Muslims who are dishonest should be killed.
“Kill them, and Allah will help you and guide your hand,” Bouyeri said. “There’s no room there for doubt or interpretation there.”
He said that killing one innocent Muslim is morally equivalent to killing all Muslims, and then remarked in English: “That’s for your administration, Uncle Bush,” in an apparent reference to the US President.
Bouyeri’s statement that ‘good non-Muslims’ should be treated fairly flies in the face of what he and his alleged group have called for. The group in which Bouyeri is allegedly the leader of has called for the conversion or killing of all non-Muslims and apostate Muslims. Dutch MP Ayaan Hirsi Ali who wrote the Theo Van Gogh produced film ‘Submission’ has been under constant threat from radical Islamists including Bouyeri and his group. What was her ‘crime’? She questioned the role of women in Islam.
Another ‘Submission’ film is set to start filming, this time the focus is questioning homosexuals’ role in Islam. To see the first ‘Submission’, click here.
