“bin Laden as Christ” artwork in NYC

Filed under: U.S. News by Mac Powell at 10:41 pm UTC

WCBSTV reporting:

Our interest in this story was sparked by an angry email sent to us here at WCBSTV.com. The writer wasn’t angry at us, but rather about what he’d seen at the current National Black Fine Art Show in the Puck Building. This is the 10th anniversary edition of the show which features galleries from across the country selling the works of America’s top African American painters, sculptors, and photographers.

But the writer had big problems with a painting by Harlem artist “Tafa”. It depicts an upside down Christ-like figure with a face strongly resembling Osama Bin Laden. The email read in part, “This is outrageous. This is an attack against my religion. How can an artist go so low? Most people are outraged, most Christians.”

On the phone with me, the artist declined to do an on-camera interview, telling me the work speaks for itself, but adding, the resemblance to Bin Laden was no accident (!).

The reporter interviews a couple of moonbats where they note they don’t see anything wrong with equating the world’s biggest terrorist to Jesus Christ.

The picture was inverted because it is easier to see and recognize Osama Bin Laden.  The original was upside-down.

The Muslims pushing the issue believe that non-Muslims ought to behave obsequiously towards all things Islamic, while the Muslims are free to demonize Jews as monkeys and pigs and accuse Christians of being idolaters. …

  2. [...] I’ll come back to that question in a minute. The other argument righties present for publishing the cartoons is based that old, bedrock conservative moral principle — they do it too. Specifically, other people make fun of Jesus, so why can’t we make fun of Mohammed? Malkin has more “they do it too” examples here. [...]

great post….i find this whole story amazing…especially the fact that american newspapers are refusing to print the cartoons for fear “of offending someone”
“someone”? oh come on…..i think we all know who and what THEY are afraid of.
i ,personally, don’t have that problem.
you might enjoy what i had to say about it….www.christmasghost.com

ok, so what would christians do if big time newspapers were printing cartoons depicting jesus sucking a cock? or something else equally offensive, such as this painting? you bet your ass there’d be massive demonstrations and christian extremists doing extreme things (making bomb threats, etc).

Considering such depictions have happened and no such threats occured, Mark, I’m not certain where you are coming from.

I believe you answered your own question though. “. . . or something else equally offensive, such as this painting?” Have there been bomb threats, threats of suicide bombings, storming an embassy or three, taking hostages, etc. as a result of this painting or has there just been outrage over the comparison? I still have yet to see a report indicating Christian extremists have taken anyone hostage over this painting.

Mark…get a grip. There have been cartoons and “art” depicting Mary in manure and Jesus in a toilet…for God’s sake. Yet…strangely enough, no one has been kidnapped, decapitated, or bombed.
Let me guess…..you had the “moonbat special” for breakfast this morning and it included koolaid didn’t it? Come on… just admit it.

WHAT IS OFFENSIVE ABOUT THE BIN LADEN PAINTING? IS IT OFFENSIVE BECAUSE SOME NUT WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT ART SAYS SO? I HAVE SEEN THE PAINTING FACE TO FACE AND THERE IS NOTHING OFFENSIVE ABOUT IT. THE TEXT AROUND THE UPSIDE DOWN FIGURE HAS TO BE READ TO UNDERSTAND THE PAINTING.
I THINK THE PAINTING IS AN ATTACK ON EVIL, AND BIN LADEN REPRESENTS THAT. THERE IS A SWASTIKA IN THE PALM OF THE FIGURE. I THINK EVIL HAS TURNED GOOD UPSIDE DOWN. IT IS A POWERFUL PIECE OF WORK.
