Al Qaeda in America – 3 indicted on terrorism in Ohio today

Filed under: Terrorism and U.S. News by Debbie at 12:25 pm UTC

Al Qaida in America? Apparently so. Three individuals in Toledo, Ohio have been indicted on plotting terrorism. “Mohammad Zaki Amawi is a citizen of Jordan and the U.S. The two others indicted were Marwan Othman El-Hindi, a U.S. citizen born in Jordan; and Wassim I. Mazloum, who came to the U.S. from Lebanon in 2000.”

The three had apparently trained in all forms of terrorism and were planning to attack U.S. forces in Iraq. At least one of the individuals had planned to kill or harm President George W. Bush. One individual has duel U.S. and Jordanian citizenship. The plots were revealed to U.S. officials by an American Muslim citizen.

A federal grand jury has indicted three Ohio men linked to al-Qaida in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi on terrorism charges of planning attacks overseas to try to kill U.S. and coalition military personnel in Iraq and other countries.

The indictment does not specify if any attacks were imminent but said the suspects recruited others as early as November 2004 to train for a violent holy war against the United States and its allies in Iraq, the indictment said. The group traveled together to a shooting range to practice shooting guns and studied how to make explosives, the indictment said.

The recruitment, said the official, took place overseas and not in the U.S. … The indictment alleges that one man, Mohammad Zaki Amawi, twice threatened to kill or inflict bodily harm against President Bush while speaking with others. The plot began in November 2004, prosecutors said.

All three also were charged with conspiring to give materials and support for carrying out the killing of U.S. nationals. source

The Muslim who notified officials about these terrorists is a U.S. citizen who served in our military. He returned to Toledo after his military service. Somehow he heard about these plots and we are thankful to him for coming forward.
