Afghan Clerics Call for Rahman’s Death

Filed under: Dhimmitude by Chad at 1:17 pm UTC

Ah, the religion of peace. Afghan Islamic clerics state Abdul Rahman, who converted from Islam to Christianity and is now facing the death penalty in Afhganistan, should be killed (via Jihad Watch).

“He is not crazy. He went in front of the media and confessed to being a Christian,” said Hamidullah, chief cleric at Haji Yacob Mosque.

“The government is scared of the international community. But the people will kill him if he is freed.”

“He is not mad. The government is playing games. The people will not be fooled,” said Abdul Raoulf, cleric at Herati Mosque. “This is humiliating for Islam. … Cut off his head.”

Raoulf is considered a moderate cleric in Afghanistan.

The insult to Islam, according to Raoulf, is that man converted to Christianity, not that an Islamic religious figure is calling for his death because of a difference in faith.

Meanwhile Tom Heneghan, Religion Editor, at Reueters explains the Western reaction to Rahman’s case “looks something like a mirror image of the Muslim reaction to the Prophet Mohammad caricatures printed in the European press.” I must have missed the reports of embassies being burned, death threats, kidnappings, legislation to prevent religious depictions in cartoons, etc. I actually doubt many Christians see this as an affront to their religion, but rather they see it as the continued cycle of radical Islamic violence.
