I’m weary about posting anything regarding the hanging of Saddam Hussein. Yes, I believe it was a good thing and yes, he deserved more than he got, but I long ago decided I’d try to keep this site from being just another snuff site on the Internet. Besides, who knows, maybe some children do access this site not named ‘Chad’ or ‘Debbie.’
Anyways, I have decided to post a video showing Saddam’s lifeless body because I think it’s important to see what should happen to brutal tyrants and because this is a glimpse of a historical event, for the world but more importantly for the new democratic state of Iraq.
As an opener, here’s a bit of comic relief. The ‘Dead Saddam Hussein’ video will be below the fold.
No2liberals on the death of Saddam Hussein, truly an interesting read.
Reuters reports some Haj pilgrims were not happy with the news of Saddam’s demise.
“His execution on the day of Eid … is an insult to all Muslims,” said Jordanian pilgrim Nidal Mohammad Salah. “What happened is not good because as a head of state, he should not be executed.”
“This timing was chosen to turn our joy during Eid to sadness. I don’t say this for grief over Saddam … but we must ready ourselves for a new enemy from the East,” a user on an Islamist Web site said, referring to Shi’ites in
Iran.“I don’t want to believe it. Saddam cannot die. Is this the good news we get on our Eid?” said Saudi Nawaf al-Harbi.
“This is unbelievable. Things will not improve in Iraq now that Saddam is dead,” said a Syrian pilgrim, Abu Mostafa. “There will be more violence and more Arab anger toward the West. [ed. Iraq is part of ‘the West’ now?]”
“They are American collaborators, those in Iraq. They should be executed, not Saddam Hussein.” said Mohammad Mousa, on haj from Lebanon. “Saddam Hussein is the most honorable of all of them. He is the most honorable Arab. They will go to hell, he will go to heaven.”
Granted there are other pilgrims who rejoiced at the news, but I have a question for the Islamists stating disbelief or astonishment. What, exactly, would it take to execute someone? Obviously it’s not a man who was found guilty for mass genocide. Does someone have to be an Infidel or apostate before they are executed? Would it have been better if the Iraqi government forced Saddam Hussein to renounce Allah and then hang him?
UPDATE: Nuke has the cell phone recording of the actual hanging of Saddam Hussein, though it’s not nearly as graphic as Reuters makes it out to be . . . or at least in my opinion. Maybe scouring jihadi message boards has made me immune to video of death?

Of course there are many considerations regarding his sentence, as there are opinions.
I find this observation by The Mesopotamian one of the most valid, for Iraqis that want to move forward.

I’m glad he’s dead and gone.

I predicted this would happen, but I figured it would be “Gallows Pole”!
Very good though.

There’s little question it was rushed, nor why it was rushed, but that was entirely up to the Iraqi government. What I find funny is within the quotes reported by Reuters, two blame nations/regions other than Iraq.
And why would Saddam’s lawyers file suit in Washington for a stay of execution? The U.S. wasn’t executing Saddam Hussein, they were simply holding him in a secure location for trial.

I would like to know what his last words were right before they hung him. I saw him talking to the executioners and somebody has to know what he said. They should have buried him in the mass graves where he buried all his “eniemies”! A proper burial is too good for him.

Tracey, there were reportedly several things said including what is believed to have been his last words before he started praying when the floor was dropped.
It was then that he started going into prayer and during the second verse he is stopped mid-sentence.
Happy New Year to you as well, Nuke.
