Of course there are many considerations regarding his sentence, as there are opinions.
I find this observation by The Mesopotamian one of the most valid, for Iraqis that want to move forward.

But it must be admitted, that there is haste to execute Saddam for reasons other than simply justice and revenge; there are political considerations. The Government wants to get this over and done with as quickly as possible to forestall any unforeseen impediments, and in order not give his followers and supporters time to plan something. Besides, Saddam is still a symbol for some, and you may remember the demonstrations in Diala, Salahuldin and elsewhere brandishing his photos and shouting the famous slogan “with Souls, with Blood, we sacrifice our lives for you”. And then there is the so-called “Return Party”, which is a group of Baathist terrorists calling for the return of the Saddam regime under his leadership.

Very good though.

There's little question it was rushed, nor why it was rushed, but that was entirely up to the Iraqi government. What I find funny is within the quotes reported by Reuters, two blame nations/regions other than Iraq.

And why would Saddam's lawyers file suit in Washington for a stay of execution? The U.S. wasn't executing Saddam Hussein, they were simply holding him in a secure location for trial.

I would like to know what his last words were right before they hung him. I saw him talking to the executioners and somebody has to know what he said. They should have buried him in the mass graves where he buried all his "eniemies"! A proper burial is too good for him.

Tracey, there were reportedly several things said including what is believed to have been his last words before he started praying when the floor was dropped.

"Go to hell," one [witness] is reported to have said. "The hell that is Iraq?" Saddam supposedly snaps back. (source)

It was then that he started going into prayer and during the second verse he is stopped mid-sentence.

Happy New Year to you as well, Nuke.
