Mellencamp: U.S. Should not Respond to 9/11 or Pearl Harbor

Filed under: Looney Left, Videos by Chad at 10:42 am CST

Singer John Mellencamp on the ‘Charlie Rose Show’ said the removal of the Taliban after 9/11 was wrong, but further Mellencamp stated if the United States knew exactly where Osama bin Laden was it would be wrong to drop a bomb on OBL’s head.

Mellencamp: I think what would have been appropriate is exactly what we’re going to have to do right now.

Rose: What’s that?

Mellencamp: Talk to people.

Rose: Who do we go talk to? Do we call him up and say, “Osama, can we talk about this? We’re not real happy about this. Can we talk about it?”

Mellencamp then said we should talk to “the Muslims” and ask “where are we so far apart here?”

Later in the interview Mellencamp says he doesn’t know how he’d respond to the attack on Pearl Harbor in World War II because he doesn’t really know what happened. He says he’s read books, but he doesn’t know if history is always right.

From his comments on believing Osama bin Laden and Islamists want to negotiate and the best course of self-defense, which Mellencamp says he fully supports if he has to, is to just talk to people that see it as their mission to kill the Infidel. Mellencamp should open a book from time to time and perhaps read any of the number of missives by Islamists the world over.  Even a short perusal over the Osama bin Laden message timeline should force Mellencamp to see the error of his ways, but somehow I doubt he is a reader of this site.  A pacifist he isn’t as he claims, a delusional fool he is.

Mellencamp also said similar comments back in 2001.

The Idiot of Indiana, author of Jack-offf and Diane, proclaims his true ignorance liberally and proudly! My 8 year old niece knows more about history than the little johnny cougar.

Those that know him from back in Indiana have always known that his two top traits are ignorance and arrogance. He was a wanna-be biker, and now he is a wanna-be thinker. Please don’t blame the Indiana Public School System…..Johnny’s ignorance is not demonstrative of Indiana residents.

Perhaps little Johnny should go to Phoenix to sing….on his first concert there, an audience member chucked a whiskey bottle at Cougar and hit him smack on his mellon-camp. That didn’t even seem to knock any sense into his thick, empty skull……

Let me get this straight… He doesn’t have “enough information” and isn’t sure if he’s told the truth with history (the only time here he may have had a point, though not on this issue), so he admits all of that.. but then we’re supposed to accept that he KNOWS how to deal with Afghanistan? What a retard. You know, as a musician, you don’t operate on the same level as elected officials, aren’t privy to the same information, don’t know history, etc and admit this, but because Afghanistan was recent, you’re the authority. F you Mellencamp you crazy crazy SOB.

Can this POS not remember the feeling he had on 9/11? Or did he not have the same feeling as us. That “it’s time for justice” feeling.

The Islamists were so willing to negotiate when we turned the other cheek after their previous atrocities. We were giving Afghanistan hundreds of millions of dollars in aide in the years before 911.

This bozo thinks that a lone gunman killing JFK is farfetched and can’t imagine that Usama Bin Laden, Zawahiri and the rest don’t really have America’s best interest at heart. They commit terror because they are misunderstood.

Maybe we should just drop all of those JCM cds, cassettes and albums that no one here is listening to on the terrorists and they will listen and see the light.

In that pop rock world where everything comes together in 2:58 minutes there must be some universal truth that will put an end to the madness.

Who needs history books when you’ve got John Cougar Mellencamp accessing the situation.

How evil must these individuals be in order to take advantage of the freedom and liberty which was fought for by our forefathers. This man is a piece of garbage, worse than a pile of dog cr*p. If he said these things in my face I would have to fight hard to not strike him. My brother was a victim on 9/11 working on the 105th floor of WTC tower #1. I am not out for revenge, but I do want to prevent the Islamic terrorists from destroying our great country, the United States of America. He was the musical entertainment for the opening of the Center For The Intrepid, at the Brooks Army Medical Center, in San Antonio.
Yep, this person, that sees no justification for war…ever, was serenading dignitaries, and severely injured military personnel, at a grand opening of a remarkable facility, that was paid for by private donations, so our heroes can get the treatments and rehab they need, to resume their lives.
    I’ll bet he didn’t give a dime…or a d**n.

… Mellencamp stated if the United States knew exactly where Osama bin Laden was it would be wrong to drop a bomb on OBL’s head.

In fact, the U.S. did “know” exactly where OBL was at one point and did drop a bomb right on his head. Only problem: It wasn’t OBL at all; it was someone else entirely, but he looked very tall and since OBL is the only very tall man in that part of the world, the pilots were ordered to drop a bomb on his head. It’s especially unfortunate since in dropping a bomb on the head of OBL who turned out not to be OBL, the pilots killed and wounded a bunch of innocent civilians in that village.

And then there were all the times that the U.S. thought it knew exactly where Saddam Hussein was and dropped bombs directly on his head, too. Every single time, it turned out Saddam Hussein was not there and not even anywhere near where the bombs fell. People did get killed, but it wasn’t Hussein. In the end, when he WAS caught, it was good old-fashioned legwork that got him, not a bomb dropped from 20,000 feet in the air.

A bomb is kind of a blunt weapon to use when you’re trying to kill one person, isn’t it? Unless, that is, you really don’t care about all the incidental human life that is destroyed, because if it’s not American life, it doesn’t count.

Kathy, Mellencamp was asked if they knew the location of OBL, not if they thought they knew. It was a hypothetical discussion where there would not be room for error. When faced with that hypothetical question, Mellencamp said he wouldn’t do it. That demonstrates foolishness not to kill a man responsible for thousands of deaths the world over and the rejuvenation of a world-wide movement responsible for millions of deaths since its inception. That’s just asinine.

And what is this talk of knowing OBL’s location when he wasn’t there ending up in killing innocent lives? When was this? That happened with Zawahiri in Damadola, but not OBL. Zawahiri skipped out on his dinner plans, but we got five of his goons including the man believed to be the AQ chemical expert. I’d call that a good catch where, unfortunately, innocents died in the strike. Now if Pakistan had acted in the Waziristan region or the U.S. decided to violate Pakistani sovereignty, those might have been avoided. But the killing of either Zawahiri or OBL would have ended up saving the lives of innocents. On the other hand, Zarqawi sure was killed by a “blunt weapon.”

Lastly, please don’t put words into my mouth as you insinuated in your last sentence.

    Dang, Kathy!
You’ve really got that bleeding-heart thing down pat.
Since you want to play pick and chose, and that war is wrong, and I can only assume, everything is President Bush’s fault, let’s take another look at history.
W’s predecessor in the White House, the Horny Hick, had OBL in his sights, CIA operatives and Northern Alliance soldiers ready to take him out, and the Horny Hick’s national security advisor, Sandy Burglar, refused to give the go ahead. Just think, the tall one could have been eliminated long ago, no muss-no fuss, by a bungling President that was more concerned with his libido, than National Security. Had the previous administration taken any number of actions like that one, it’s quite possible even 911 could have been averted. Instead W inherits threats to our nation, that Clintoon could have resolved, and many, many lives could have been saved, as the result of the GWOT.
I’m a vet, and have served in war time, and can assure you, there are few troops that don’t feel the crush of responsibility when an innocent dies in war. It also makes them angry when they see what the terrorists do to innocent people everyday.

If you have a disagreement with a reasonable person, then negotiating a reasonable solution is the intelligent, civilized thing to do.

If you have just been attacked by a brutal, ruthless, genocidal maniac who killed 3000 of your brothers and sisters, negotiating is suicide.

God forbid Iran gets the atomic bomb. God forbid they manage to get one into the United States. God forbid they detonate that bomb in New York City, because if they do, ten million people are going to die.

But if they do, God forbid we ever fight back, right John? Because as long as Mellenbrain’s life isn’t in immediate danger, then there’s no reason to fight, right? Like he said, he’s in favor of *self* defense. All of those people who lost their life on 9/11, well, they ain’t worth going to war over.

The only thing worse than a moron is an arrorgant moron. Well John, all those Hollywood celebrities of the 1940’s mentioned in the above post WERE there and they thought it was appropriate.

rich: can you kindly explain how the war has protected “big business interests”? which businesses and what would have happened to their interests had there not been a war? i love you guys who simply repeat what you can read off a bumper sticker…let’s hear some factual support instead of bromides

War for oil! War for oil! Somebody smarter than I said that if this war were only about oil, wouldn’t it be smarter to invade Mexico or Venezuela? The soldiers could return home more quickly, it wouldn’t cost nearly as much to move our troops there, and the food is better!

All the people who say this was about controlling oil don’t understand… oil is fungible. It doesn’t matter where it comes from. If anything, all the complaining Europeans are the ones benefitting from free flowing oil, as they get a far higher percentage from the middle east than we do. The recent deal by Hugo ‘Mini Fidel’ Chavez to sell 1 millions of barrels of oil to China, that should concern us. If that much oil is diverted to China and not available for the US, we may well see our oil prices rise considerably.

I have an idea, why don’t we drill for our own oil on our own land. Exploring for oil where you only have caribou or bears is far preferable to dealing with South American Communists and Islamists.

Give me a break. These morons don’t understand the real world. They have created their own world that does not exist.

What next? Talk to murderers and pedophiles? Ask them to promise to stop what they are doing? Shake hands and hug when they promise?

Joe, if you looked around you’d see people of all political persuasions have left comments on this site. You’re more than welcome to comment in agreement with Mellencamp that the U.S. should leave OBL alone or that Pearl Harbor wasn’t cause for the United States to go to war.

HAHAHAHA…LMAO…let me guess, Tokyo-Rosie for VP….ROFLMAO…ok, ok, now that I’ve picked myself up off the floor and wiped the tears of laughter from my face and have caught my breath let me say Kent may be on to something here; First of all who’s to say that John and Rosie are not qualified to run this country, after all, John-Mental-Head is a ROCK STAR, nuff said, that should be qualification enough, who cares he knows absolutely nothing about history!

Also, now that we all know Tokyo-”first time in history fire has melted steel”-Rosie is an engineering, metallurgy, and fire sciences expert she too is more than qualified to be VP!

I grew up about 20 minutes from John’s hometown of Seymour Indiana. I’ve actually met one of John’s high school teachers. According to this guy, lil Johnny was a smart mouthed punk, and they never really thought he would amount to anything.

    They were right!

Snowed Under in Indiana must have met John “I love OBL” Meth-addict must have met his history teacher, maybe if he kept his smart-A** mouth shut he may have more knowledge about Pearl Harbor….? Obviously John-Mellon-Head has LITTLE-MAN Syndrome!

What the hell is he smoking .. has he read any history books on Fanatical Islam … there is no negotiation … read up idot .. when them come knocking on your door see if you can talk to them. They only care about their own fanatical laws that is totaly contrary to pacifism. Dumb A……S…

Absolutely true, in fact one of my favorite analogies I use to describe how utterly futile it is to negotiate or appease the Islamo-fascists is the Terminator Analogy:

“The Terminator (in our case Islamo-fascists) cannot be reasoned with, they cannot be negotiated with, they feel no pity or remorse, and they won’t stop until we’re all DEAD!!”

It’s obvious to me that John “I gotta one-inch-tool” Mental-Cramp isn’t the only one that is ignorant to history. There are many in the same “Mental-Camp” as John that subscribe to the Chamberlain “Lets give appeasement a chance” club! I say this because if they did know their history they would have no doubt how futile it is to negotiate with or appease an enemy that does not share the same values as you do, an enemy that has a very specific agenda based on a fanatic religious ideology (kinda like the Imperialist Shinto ideology of the Japanese pre WWII) that precludes their ability for rational thought and trumps our ability to negotiate with them!

I can picture John-Moron-Camp sitting beside the campfire in a cave with these nut jobs, whipping out his MP-3 player and playing some of his music and trying to “negotiate” and “talk” to AQ and OBL, he wouldn’t survive through the first song before they burn him and his music at the stake! Yet this mental giant has the nerve to spit on us and the nation that allowed him the freedom to make music, perform music, and get filthy rich off doing it…this is the ultimate in hypocrisy and is akin to him dropping trowe and SH**ING on us!

I wonder if John is enjoyihg the money from General Motors ,singing about our country, when GM is taking thousands of jobs out of this country!

Comment by mike cassenti — Friday, February 23, 2007 @ 3:02 pm CST

A perfect example of his hypocrisy, I’d like to mention one of his songs (it used to be one of my favorites of his) “Scarecrow.” In the song he laments on how unfair it is that big business and the banks were foreclosing on all the little farmers in his home town, yet he provides the music for GM’s commercials, a company that has cut thousands of blue-collar jobs and outsourced thousands more! Good to see he doesn’t let money get in the way of his integrity and convictions…

I find his thoughtless answers to be more offensive than my satirically given name for him, “John Cougar Concentration Camp”.

Comment by Yiddish Steel — Wednesday, February 14, 2007 @ 1:08 pm CST

Another good point, most likely he will be one of the many pacifists ending up in an Islamo concentration camp and it will be left to those of us that resisted and fought back to liberate them once WWIII is over, only this time we should hold Nuremberg (sp) type trials for those who assisted our enemy by dividing our nation with all their bash America rhetoric, knowingly or not!

Regardless if these people know it or not they are aiding the enemy in dividing our nation by espousing their “imperialist America” “9-11 was a government conspiracy” “no war for oil” (add nausea) vitriolic propaganda at a critical time when we should be uniting, and in my opinion is nothing less than treason and they should be tried for it when this is all over and done, if nothing else as a lesson to future generations to not allow their own warped and egotistical agenda to place their nation at risk!

Some quotes here, and although some of the author’s names slip my mind (Old-Timers) their words have never more true or important than today:

“All that is needed for evil to triumph is for a few good men to do nothing” - Edmund Burke

“Where they burn books, soon they burn bodies.”

“Appeasement is merely fear disguised as peace.”

Ugh. I do not understand this way of thinking. Why do people not see that they want to kill anyone who is not Muslim?

And um, you guys? Some of you had some great comments/retorts, but what is with the name calling?? We are all adults here, no?

I just find it awful childish for you to try to make your (intelligent) point while resorting to name calling. It takes away from what you are trying to say. At least that is how it comes across to me. Just my .02 for what its worth.

What would happen if Johnny Cougar went over and tried to talk to Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri? They would cut off his head. And while Johhny was screaming in agony, they’d be chanting “Allah Akbar! Allah Akbar!”. Mr. Cougar doesn’t seem to understand that they are fanatics who believe that it is their duty to kill or convert every non-Muslim on the planet.
