According to the Washington Post, during Operation Rat Trap (could there be a more appropriate name for such an operation?) Muharib Abdul Latif, a senior Al Qaida in Iraq leader responsible for “crafting propaganda efforts and coordinating the flow of money and foreign fighters,” was killed. Latif is also connected to the hostage taking of Americans Jill Carroll, who was released, and Tom Fox who was murdered and two Germans.
As the Post notes, Latif’s death might have caused confusion over the death of Al Qaida in Iraq leader Abu Ayyub al-Masri seeing as how they are both leaders of the terror network. There shouldn’t be any confusion since the Iraqi government claimed al-Masri was killed by Sunni militias rather than U.S. forces, but nothing at this point would surprise me.
