Infant used as weapon

Filed under: Crime, U.S. News by Debbie at 9:23 am CDT

Chytoria Graham of Pennsylvania grabbed her 4 month old infant, Jarron, by his feet and swung him, hitting her boyfriend and fracturing the baby’s skull. Her excuse? She had been drinking and snapped. Her attorney is blaming postpartum depression and possibly battered-woman syndrome. Graham has three other children and is pregnant with her fifth child.

Graham’s unemployed 20-year-old, live-in boyfriend Deangelo Troop, has a history of arrests for possession of crack cocaine and other crimes. Graham is also unemployed. I assume they are on some form of welfare.

Police were told Thursday that Jarron, who was delivered by Caesarean section Sept. 11, was in serious but stable condition in a drug-induced coma at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. The baby emerged from the coma on Friday, according to police.Police arrived at Graham and Troop’s apartment at about 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 8, finding broken household items, furniture knocked over and paramedics treating Jarron.

Graham told investigators she was out drinking the night before and argued with Troop when she got home. The argument turned to shoving and pushing.

As Jarron lay in bed wrapped in a blanket, police say, Graham grabbed the infant and swung him at Troop.

When Graham put the child down, they said, Troop punched her in the eye. Graham called 911.

Graham was jailed in lieu of $75,000 (euro59,760) bail, charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, simple assault and reckless endangerment.

Scarpitti said her client was traumatized and kept inquiring about Jarron and her other children. Scarpitti wants Graham to undergo psychological evaluation. source

I don’t know the history, but it bothers me that parents do this sort of thing and then claim battered woman syndrome, or post-partum depression, or temporary insanity, and get off with a slap on the wrist. It also bothers me that people can keep popping out child after child that they cannot care for. We all know who suffers, the children.

Justifying Honor Killings

Filed under: World Scene, Crime by Mike Pechar at 12:59 pm CDT

The struggle toward 21st Century human rights principles among the followers of the religion of peace is demonstrated by this report from the Turkish Daily News.

A study by the Diyarbakir Bar Association Women’s Rights Consultation Center showed that courts had accepted rape, rumors about cheating or simply walking around with men as mitigating factors in 46 of 59 “honor killing” cases in Diyarbakir courts between 1999 and 2005.

Consequently, I wouldn’t be surprised to see an accused murderer justifying his complicity in an honor killing by pointing to rumors reported in a celebrity gossip magazine.

“Yes, your Honor. The fact that she was raped by her uncle was reason enough for her to die, however, I also read that she had winked at a man during a bus trip. Then I saw her walking in the company of men. For these immoral acts, the honor of the family was deeply besmirched and she had to be killed.”

Sadly, we don’t hear many complaints from international human rights organizations on this issue. Presumably, they are busy worrying about the rights of terrorists.

UK: Muslim leaders fear thousands of children are abused at madrassas

Filed under: World Scene, Crime by Mac Powell at 1:10 pm CST

In a scandal that could rival the abuse claims within the Catholic church, a report published yesterday claims that thousands of children have been abused at the madrassas throughout England:

Up to 100,000 children are taught at 700 Islamic schools, or madrassas, of which almost a half use unlawful corporal punishment to discipline pupils, says the report into child protection published today by the Muslim Parliament of Great Britain. The authors also warn that each year at least a dozen children are sexually abused by their teachers and Imans with very few cases ever being made public.

Years of unregulated education means that tens of thousands of Muslim pupils now face a significant risk of harm by attending school, says the report.

“Because of the fear of child abuse some parents prefer home tuition instead, a practice said to be flourishing,” it adds. [Source]

Ghayasuddin Siddiqui, the co-author of the report,  notes that “anecdotal evidence suggested around two-fifths of madrasas teachers hit or scolded their pupils, and that reports of 15-20 cases of sex abuse a year understated the true level.”  I’m shocked (we’ll not really) that the media  isn’t  covering this story at all, since it could “rival” the abuse claims within the Catholic church.

Muslim Leader Investigated for Homophobia

Filed under: Media, World Scene, Crime by Mike Pechar at 1:06 am CST

(London) Here’s a case where the rules of political correctness will completely muffle Scotland Yard.

From the Independent Online:

The head of the Muslim Council of Britain is being investigated by police after denouncing homosexuality as immoral and claiming it spreads disease.

Sir Iqbal Sacranie also provoked outrage last week when he complained that civil partnerships risked damaging society’s foundations.

Scotland Yard’s community safety unit, which investigates homophobia and hate crime, is considering whether Sir Iqbal has broken telecommunications laws or the 1986 Public Order Act, which forbids the use of “threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress or thereby.”

Two things. First of all, in my opinion there’s no way that Scotland Yard will prosecute Sacranie … for anything. The Brits bend over for the Muslims all the time and they’ll surely not go after one that’s been knighted by the Queen.

Secondly, I don’t see the homosexuals making too big a stink about Sacranie’s remarks since they don’t want to make themselves a primary target of Muslim hostility. Also, the gay and Muslim communities are essentially bedfellows pursuing defeat of mutual foes — Christianity, Judaism, and President Bush. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a conspiracy. It’s just that the Islamists and the homosexuals generally end up on the same side of most issues.

All in all, I foresee Scotland Yard letting the Sacranie investigation die.

On a different note, the Brits really need to revisit their idea of free speech. The fact that insults are considered illegal according to British law is most troubling. Holy moly, a guy could get arrested and jailed for simply talking about his mother-in-law.

Sex Trafficking Ring Busted

Filed under: National Security, Crime by Mike Pechar at 6:01 am CST

(Houston) Eight suspects of El Salvadoran origin have been charged for allegedly conspiring to smuggle Central and South American girls and women into the United States for prostitution. According to federal authorities, a sweep also resulted in approximately 100 Central and South American women and girls being taken into custody in connection with various immigration issues.

From HoustonChronicle.com:

The defendants allegedly enticed the victims from their homes in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras and smuggled them into the country through the Mexican border, then forced them to work at the suspects’ businesses to pay off their smuggling fees. Authorities said the victims were coerced into sitting and dancing with customers, as well as submitting to their sexual demands.

Arrested Sunday were Maximino Mondragon, 57; Victor Omar Lopez, 38; Oscar Mondragon, 47; Walter Alexander Corea, 39; Kerin Josue Silva, 19; Olga Mondragon, 45; Maria Fuentes, 35; and Lorenza Reynosa.

All eight are charged with conspiring to recruit and transport young Central and South American women and girls for purposes of prostitution. If convicted of conspiracy, each faces a possible five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Interestingly, the federal bust of the El Salvadoran sex trafficking operation was reported at the same time it was announced that illegal aliens from El Salvador have become the largest other than Mexican (OTM) group in the U.S. This is particularly troublesome since convicted violent criminals, including notorious Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang members, are in the mix of those being smuggled into the country. To illustrate, an October 31 deportation load was comprised of 13 Mara Salvatrucha gangsters and 57 other convicted criminals, all from El Salvador.

Since illegally sauntering across the border is a crime without punishment, I imagine every one of the convicted and all of the MS-13 gang members will be back in the U.S. soon. And, adding to everyone’s frustration, they’ll probably bring along their buddies. After all, crossing the U.S.-Mexican border is like having an all-day pass at Disney World. There’s no charge to take the ride over and over and over.

Italian media: Al Qaeda turning to Organized Crime for protection

Filed under: Terrorism, Crime by Mac Powell at 3:20 pm CDT

New America Media is citing Italian media claiming that Al Qaeda is moving operatives through Italy on their way to North Africa and Europe with the help of a Naples-based criminal network Neapolitan Camorra, a group similar to the Mafia:

The internationally connected Camorra organization specializes in drug trafficking, prostitution, gambling and human and arms trafficking. Historically, the Camorra has worked with terrorist groups from all latitudes and political persuasions.

According to Italian investigative sources, the Camorra could help Al Qaeda obtain forged documents and weapons for its operatives, who disembark almost daily from ships connecting Italy to the Arab countries of North Africa. In addition, in exchange for substantial cargoes of narcotics, these operatives are moved through Camorra’s connections from Naples to Rome, Bologna, Milan and eventually to other major European cities such as Paris, London, Berlin and Madrid.

These Al Qaeda are being “swallowed by Naples’ intricate network of alleys called vicoli,” which are similar to Middle Eastern neighborhoods. Estimates claim that as many as 5,000 operatives have sought refuge in Naples (or at least travel though the city). Camorra has a long history of helping Communist and Fascist groups the article notes. It is worth reading.

Don’t Look at the Spinning Thing

Filed under: Crime by Chad at 6:28 am CDT

How does one steal money from someone? Sure, there are several ways, but has any robber ever thought about hypnotizing people into giving their money to them? Supposedly this is happening in Russia.

Employees of currency exchange points in Moldova have been instructed not to talk or make eye contact with their customers after a string of mysterious robberies, Russia’s NTV television reports.

According to Moldovan police, a criminal has stolen about $30,000 from several exchange points in the space of a week. The initial investigation has shown that most probably the thief hypnotized the clerks as they talked to him and they voluntarily handed over all the cash they had at hand.

Beware the secret hypnotizer.

MS-13 Plans Police Officer Bloodbath

Filed under: National Security, Crime by Mike Pechar at 3:29 am CDT

According to intelligence gathered from Mara Salvatruchas, MS-13, the notorious gang is planning to assassinate federal and local police in the coming days.

From Team4News.com:

In the intelligence bulletin obtained by Action 4 News, a confidential informant in Virginia claims the Mara Salvatruchas have designated October 30 as “Kill A Law Enforcement Officer Day.”

The memo cites the informant as someone who’s provided reliable information in the past.

[ … ]

The bulletin originated with an agency called Federal Protective Services.

They say the MS 13’s want to kill officers because of the pressure they are under from U.S. Customs agents “Operation Community Shield” - a nationwide initiative targeting violent street gangs.

In my opinion, the situation could not be much worse than to have illegal aliens being brazen enough to schedule a day to murder American law enforcement officers.

Kuwait Hangs Drug Smugglers

Filed under: World Scene, Crime by Mike Pechar at 4:42 pm CDT

(Kuwait City) Kuwait hanged four Pakistanis yesterday for drug trafficking and then left their bodies hanging from the gallows for public viewing.

From ArabNews.com:

A Justice Ministry statement identified the men as Mohammed Ahmed Khan, 33, Abdul-Basir Abudl-Hai Mohammed Ishaq, 50, Faz Mohammed Youssef Khan, 32, and Sayyed Modather Shah Hikmat, 26.

Criminal courts found them guilty of smuggling heroin by swallowing capsules that contained the drug. Customs officials at the Kuwait International Airport suspected them of smuggling as they entered the country on different dates in 2002 with forged passports, the ministry said.

Public hangings have been imposed for drug smugglers since 2002 as a deterrent. It’s worked to some degree. Recidivism has been eliminated.

Interestingly, the Pakistanis were arrested carrying a considerable amount of heroin which would appear to indicate that Kuwait has a problem with drug abuse and, at least, some intravenous heroin users. This would seem to be somewhat difficult in a regimented Islamic society like Kuwait. Surely, someone would notice if a friend or neighbor was strung out on smack.

On the other hand, given the normal apparel worn by Muslims, it would be easy to hide track marks and, frankly, the expressions on faces of devout followers of the religion of peace are not all that dissimilar from the look on funky junkies’ faces.

Get Your Al Qaida Coupons

Filed under: Humor, Crime by Chad at 7:05 am CDT

How nice. Two men were arrested for selling fake Al Qaida coupons in India.

A middle-aged Bangladeshi was reportedly selling coupons to raise funds for Al Qaeda in some Muslim areas of Kolkata, according to the state detective department.

Reports said the man, who looked like a fakir and was believed to be about 50 years old, sold coupons of Rs.25 and Rs.50 denominations under the name of “Mujahiddin al Qaida Pacific International - Dhaka, Bangladesh” in Metiaburz and other areas near the Kolkata port.

My question though is whether or not the coupons were good for an Al Qaida condom or a Bin Laden pinata?
